Fr. Francis Gayam


Position: Pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Arcata

I was born on February 15th 1953. I am the oldest of seven children (three boys and four girls). I was ordained a priest on February 14th 1978 in the diocese of Nalgonda in the state of Telangana, India. In 1993 I attended the Institute of St. Anselm in England and receive a degree in Human Development. At the request of my bishop I joined the Fordham University in New York to continue my studies. While studying there I was also the parish vicar at St. Francis Xavier parish in Bronx, New York. I received my Masters in Spirituality and Spiritual Direction in 1995. I returned to India and was appointed Spiritual Director and Teacher of Spirituality at St. John’s Regional Major Seminary in my province from 1995 to 2001. I returned to New York’s Fordham University to continue my studies and received a Masters in Pastoral Counseling in 2010. I then took a priest chaplain position at the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital from 2010 to 2014. I returned to India for a little over a year before Bishop Vasa requested my services here at St. Mary’s Parish and the HSU Newman Center.  -Fr. Francis Gayam
